MEET Sophia
Hi, I’m Sophia! And I have huge goals and dreams for myself. I am passionate about golf. I love it all, from the slight nerves I wake up with in the morning before a big tournament, to the girls I get to meet as I travel around the country to play. The golf course is my happy place. I love being outside, I love each time I step up to hit the ball and I love the way I feel when my shot goes exactly where I wanted it to. It’s a thrill.
I may be in high school currently, but I’ve thought a lot about who I want to be in 5 and even 10 years.
So here are my dreams written out as a letter to my future self…
Dear Sophia,
You’ve worked so hard! Look how far you’ve come. From the first time you picked up a club with your dad on the course on the weekends to landing a spot on your high school varsity team as a freshman, you have grown so much.
While other girls your age are hanging out with friends and sleeping in on the weekends, you’re out on the course practicing your short game. Golf seems to be in your blood. Maybe it’s because you’ve been playing for as long as you can remember, or maybe it’s because golf’s your favorite way to hang with your dad…whatever it is, you’re driven by a passion and love of the game.
You’ve competed at the highest levels. You’ve won some, you’ve faced some challenges, and you’ve learned something new every time you step up to take your next shot. See, something you didn’t realize at first is how mental golf really is. And that’s hard for a young person…the discipline, the focus, the maturity. But you’ve faced those challenges head-on. You’ve developed your own sense of self and your own methods for visualization, pre-shot strategies, and identifying what you improve on with each next shot.
Now here you are! You face harder courses, longer yardage, and fiercer competition than ever. If the pressure was on before, it’s really on now. But guess what? You’ve trained and practiced for this your entire life. You’ve applied what your coaches have taught you every chance you’ve had. You’ve learned by watching other female golfers and now you’re the one younger girls look up to. You’ve got this.
So girl, continue to work hard and enjoy the ride. Never take your wins for granted. Use them to continue to fuel your passion.
Love,
Sophia
